Dean, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University
Dr. Slaughter is dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Bert G. Kerstetter '66 University Professor of Politics at Princeton University. She also served as president of the American Society of International Law from 2002 to 2004. Previously she was J. Sinclair Armstrong Professor of International Foreign and Comparative law at Harvard Law School. She writes widely on foreign policy and international law issues; her most recent book is A New World Order. She is currently co-chair of the Princeton Project on National Security and serves on the board of directors of the New America Foundation. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is based in Princeton, NJ.

Critical Policy Choice
Backed by strong international support, the formation of a permanent International Criminal Court (ICC) will soon replace the use of ad hoc tribunals such as those for Yugoslavia and Rwanda. The United States, originally a proponent of the ICC treaty negotiated in Rome in 1998, now stands with the small minority opposing the ICC. With the court likely to come into existence, the terms of U.S. participation in the treaty are now a vital question.
