(Japan), President, Japan International Cooperation Agency; former U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees
Mrs. Ogata is currently president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. She previously was a co-chair of the Commission on Human Security, and served as Prime Minister Koizumi’s special representative for Afghanistan assistance. Before that, she served ten years as the United Nations high commissioner for refugees. She has also held positions as Japan’s UN envoy, chairman of the executive board of UNICEF, and dean of the faculty of foreign studies at Sophia University in Tokyo.
