(Thailand), Secretary-General, Association of Southeast Asian Nations; former Foreign Minister of Thailand
Dr. Pitsuwan is secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Previously, he had been a member of the parliament of Thailand since 1986. He served as Thailand’s minister of foreign affairs from 1992 to 2001, and has also served as deputy foreign affairs minister and assistant secretary to the minister of the interior. He also has taught at Thammasart University and worked as a columnist for the Nation Review and Bangkok Post. He is a co-chair of the Commission on Human Security.
