Who serves on the U.N. reform panel?

Members of the High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges, and Change, created by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in November 2003:

• Anand Panyarachun, Thailand. The committee’s chairman; a former Thai prime minister.
• Robert Badinter, France. A member of the French Senate who also served as the minister of justice.
• Gro Harlem Brundtland, Norway. A trained physician, the first woman to serve as Norwegian prime minister, and director-general of the World Health Organization from 1998 to 2003.
• Mary Chinery-Hesse, Ghana. Vice chairman of the national development planning commission of Ghana and a former deputy director-general of the International Labor Organization.
• Gareth Evans, Australia. President of aid agency International Crisis Group and a former Australian minister for foreign affairs.
• David Hannay, United Kingdom. A former permanent representative to the United Nations, he also served as U.K. special envoy to Cyprus.
• Enrique Iglesias, Uruguay. President of the Inter-American Development Bankand a former foreign minister of Uruguay.
• Amre Moussa, Egypt. Secretary-general of the League of Arab States and former Egyptian foreign minister.
• Satish Numbiar, India. A former lieutenant general in the Indian Army and a force commander of the United Nations Protection Force in the former Yugoslavia.
• Sadako Ogata, Japan. U.N. high commissioner for refugees from 1991 to 2000.
• Yevgeny Primakov, Russia. Prime minister from 1998-99 and foreign minister from 1996-98.
• Qian Qichen, China. A former vice prime minister and foreign minister.
• Nafis Sadik, Pakistan. A former executive director of the United Nations Population Fund.
• Salim Ahmed Salim, Tanzania. A former secretary-general of the Organization of Africa Unity, now known as the African Union.
• Brent Scowcroft, United States. National security adviser to President Gerald Ford and President George H.W. Bush.
