Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General Abubakar Malami said that Abuja has reached an agreement with a number of countries, including the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, for the repatriation of $500 million in looted public funds.

These are unsettled times in Nigerian politics. On August 7, masked operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), secret police, barricaded the national assembly in Abuja, preventing access by legislators. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo proceeded to fire DSS chief Lawal Daura and later placed him under house arrest.

Domestic and international observers generally see Osinbajo as highly competent and his tenure as vice president a success. The Lagos business community, highly critical of Buhari’s economic policies, will welcome the prospect that Osinbajo will continue as vice president. He has been generally lauded for his role as acting president during Buhari's absences, most recently for his handling of a blockade of the national assembly by certain members of the security services.
